EUROGATE, Europe's largest container terminal operator, has taken part in the transport logistics China 2012 trade fair in Shanghai at the German Ports stand.
It primary focus has been on its new Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven, Germany's only deep water port directly on the North Sea coast, alongside presenting its flagship terminals of Hamburg and Bremerhaven. All three terminals are capable of handling super-sized vessels of average capacity 10,000 TEU.
The new port of Wilhelmshaven is an ideal transhipment hub for container traffic to Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and Russia. It has a navigation channel with a water depth of 18 metres, allowing large container carriers to arrive and depart at all times. On final completion it will be able to handle 2.7 million TEU annually and provide rail connection to the hinterland.
Eurogate, jointly with Contship Italia, operates a network of nine container terminals from the North Sea coast to the Mediterranean area and has two new sea terminals of Wilhelmshaven and Ust-Luga, Russia. It has been systematically developing its network in China since 2005.
