DREWRY's Carrier Performance Insight showed liner shipping services hit a five-month high in reliability in March across the three east-west trades by being on-time an average of 64 per cent.
Maersk was the most reliable with an 81 per cent on time record followed by "K" Line with 73 per cent. Cosco and MSC scored 70 per cent while Zim shared the bottom at 39 per cent with PIL at 38 per cent.
Overall, this was an 8.5 per cent improvement over February and is the second best since October 2014 - since the start of the data series in May 2014.
The March improvement was attributed to better Asia-Europe service helped by the easing of congestion on the US west coast.
"We expect the upwards trend to continue as USWC operations return to normal, but the sharp drop in Asia-Europe freight rates is a risk as carriers could look to make cost savings detrimental to reliability," said Drewry analyst Simon Heaney.
