DUBAI's global port operator, DP World is investing A$17 million (US$12.13 million) to raise the capacity of its container terminal at the port of Melbourne by 100,000 TEU, bringing total annual handling capacity to 1.4 million TEU.
The terminal upgrade will also create 450 container storage locations for straddle carrier operations and aims to improve access for trucks into the main terminal once the works are completed in March 2016."We are investing in the future and this terminal expansion project demonstrates our commitment," said DP World Australia CEO Paul Scurrah, reported Australasian Transport News (ATN) of Brisbane.
"Being able to offer consistent terminal productivity during peak season is a massive bonus for us and our customers."
