DUBAI'S dp World Yaramca has expedited the import of Turkish cars by adopting an innovative 'cars in containers' shipping that addresses an automotive supply chain crisis in the region, reports Wroclaw, Poland's trans.iNFO.
The surge in demand in the Turkish automotive market and congestion at Turkish ports led to significant delays in delivering new vehicles.
Amid the challenges faced by traditional importation and shipping methods, such as roll-on roll-off (RoRo) ships experiencing delays at congested ports, DP World implemented an alternative approach.
Using traditional cranes, the company imported 10,000 Chinese SUVs into containers, allowing offloading at lift-on-lift-off (LoLo) ports.
This approach eliminated the need for a specialised RoRo port or berth, creating a more efficient and resilient route to the market.
To further enhance efficiency and capacity, DP World designed a unique racking arrangement, enabling the loading of three SUVs into each container instead of the conventional two.
This improved the cost efficiency of transporting vehicles from China to Turkey and reduced costs passed on to consumers.
While transporting containers in cars is not groundbreaking, DP World's tailored solution has proven successful, positioning Yar?mca as a crucial hub for shipping Chery Automotive vehicles into the Turkish auto market.
