The "Apollon Hellas", operating the Aegina - Piraeus route, suffered mechanical damage off Piraeus on July 1, 2017, short before its scheduled arrival in port at 9 p.m. The ferry was carrying 457 passengers, 36 vehicles, two trucks and two scooters when one of its three generators failed near the entrance to the main port of Piraeus. The two tugs "Armadores II" and "Ifisistos I" were called to assist and towed the ship into the main port. The ship was banned from continuing the voyage until the damages were rectified and the class attendance certificate was presented by the classification society. At the same time a preliminary investigation was carried out by the Port Authority of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus. The ship left port again on July 2 at 9 a.m. for the next trip to Aegina, arriving there at 10.15 a.m.
