MEDITERRANEAN Shipping Co (MSC), the world's No 2 container carrier after Maersk, has announced that Diego Aponte has become its new chief executive officer and president.
Diego Aponte, previously vice president, takes over the role from his father, Gianluigi Aponte, age 74, who founded the shipping line in the 1970s and becomes executive chairman.
“It is important that we keep looking forward and that we prepare the company for the future,?said the senior Mr Aponte.
“The board and I firmly believe that Diego, supported by his senior management, will deliver continued success for MSC and its customers."
Said Diego Aponte: “MSC has a proud heritage. Over the past 40 years my father founded and led MSC from a one-ship operator to become the second largest container shipping line in the world."
