"Evidence against the pirates were not strong enough"
Six pirates were on the night of Wednesday freed by Somali coast.
The district attorney has dropped the case against them. There was not enough evidence against the six Somali pirates since 30 December has been detained in the Danish warship Esbern Snare.
It has the Public Prosecutor for Special International Crimes determined, and the night of Wednesday was the pirates freed in Somalia.
After a thorough investigation we found that we can not demonstrate that a specific attack has been directed at the Danish ship Elly Maersk. We can not demonstrate that they have shot to the ship or tried to hook up, said State Prosecutor Birgitte Vestberg.
In January, struck the Eastern High Court established that the six Somali pirates could be prosecuted in Denmark for an attempt to hijack the merchant vessel Elly Maersk. But neither the evidence and interrogations of the pirates are enough to get the six Somalis convicted on Danish soil.
- We are unable to lift the burden of proving that they would go on the attack just in the Danish ship. If they had not been snapped up, so it is very obvious that they would go to attack on another ship.
- - But then, Denmark has no jurisdiction continues Birgitte Vestberg.
On the pirate ship were among others found large quantities of fuel and other equipment that can be used in a hijacking.
Witnesses also saw a rise and more weapons, but neither was actually found on a pirate ship. More objects were thrown overboard by the crew of Esbern Snare came on board the ship.
In a video interview of the six pirates they refused all knowledge of the merchant vessel Elly Maersk.
