DALIAN has posted a 23.3 per cent year-on-year increase in container volume to 7.2 million TEU from January to September, Xinhua reports.
Domestic trade box volume surged 44.4 per cent and took up 47.5 per cent of the total. Foreign trade boxes increased 8.9 per cent, accounting for 52.5 per cent.
Since last year, Dalian has attracted transshipments from neighbouring Jinzhou and Dandong. Economies of scale generated from large container handling volume at Dalian have lowered cost per box, spurring growth further.
In the same period, Dalian sea port's throughput tonnage increased 11.4 per cent to 310 million tonnes. Domestic freight grew 12 per cent to 220 million tonnes, taking up 70 per cent of the total. Foreign trade cargo went up 9.9 per cent.
In the first nine months, Dalian recorded a waterway cargo turnover volume of 523.21 billion tonnes per kilometre, a road freight turnover of 28.09 billion tonnes per kilometre, a railway cargo turnover of 13.63 billion tonnes per kilometre and an air freight turnover of 50 million tonnes per kilometre.
