Investigators arrived in Port Chamblers in the morning of Feb 10,. 2017, and boarded the "Emerald Princess" at the Dunedin wharf to find out why a crew member of the cruise ship was killed after a gas cylinder exploded. Witnesses have described the sound as a bomb going off, with it heard more than two kilometres away. The 45-kg-cylinder, containing compressed nitrogen, exploded aboard the shin in the afternoon of Feb 9. It hit and killed the crew member before flying over the railings onto the wharf below. The ship's departure has been delayed by the investigation into the fatal explosion.
