SRI Lanka's Ports Authority (SLPA) said Colombo port handled 1.7 million TEU in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 16.2 per cent.
Colombo port's transshipment volumes rose by 20.9 per cent to 1.32 million TEU, with March volumes up 19.4 per cent to 477,043 TEU, reported Hellenic Shipping News.
Only Singapore grew at a faster rate of 16.5 per cent among major ports, the SLPA said. Other fast growing ports in the region were Xiamen, China at 11.6 per cent, and Antwerp, Belgium with 10.7 per cent and Ningbo-Zhoushan, China with 10.4 per cent growth.
