CO2, new ballast water rules top London's ICS September 7 agenda
THE International Chamber of Shipping's (ICS) 2016 conference on September 7 at the British Library, 96 Euston Road, London will focus on CO2 emissions and ballast water rules.
"The issues on the table today cover a broad spectrum and affect us all," said ICS policy director Simon Bennett. "It is important to fully debate them at all levels and across all sectors of the shipping community."
CO2 emissions rules are high on the agenda as is the UN's controversial ballast water convention.
CO2 talks will be chaired by Glasgow's Teekay managing director John Adams, also chairman of the Bahamas Shipowners' Association. Sharing views will include regulators, NGOs and ship operators, reported New York's Marine Link.
Chamber of Shipping of America president Kathy Metcalf will address the challenges of the ballast water convention while UK Chamber of Shipping CEO Guy Platten will focus on Brexit and the decisions faced by shipping in consequence.
Other key issues in the spotlight include over-capacity in the shipping industry; sessions on seafarer supply issues; tackling corruption and shipowner liability.
Speakers include the UN's International Maritime Organisation (IMO) secretary-general Kitak Lim and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) principal environmental fiscal policy expert Ian Parry.
