CMA CGM is to offer a two-ways Oceania-US east coast service that will also wayport in the Panama hubs and Colombia by purchasing slots on Maersk Line's OC-1 service that is jointly operated with Hamburg Sud, which brands it Trident.
CMA CGM will receive a fixed 175-TEU weekly allocation in each direction, including 30 reefer boxes, out of the total 3,428 TEU weekly average, available capacity. Additional slot allocations can be provided on an ad hoc basis, reports Alphaliner.
The arrangement will allow CMA CGM to complete the coverage of its Oceania-Americas network by adding to its Oceania-west coast North America services and complementing its Europe-US east coast-Australia, New Zealand Panama Direct service (PAD) that will retain for the time being its fortnightly frequency.
The 'OC-1/Trident' service calls at Philadelphia, Charleston, Cartagena, Balboa, Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Port Chalmers, Napier, Tauranga, Auckland, Manzanillo (Pan), Cartagena and back to Philadelphia.
It turns in 10 weeks with 10 high-reefer capacity ships of 3,200 to 3,600-TEU. The Panama and Cartagena port calls offer opportunities to connect Australia and New Zealand and the US east coast to the west coast of South America and to the Caribbean sector.
The third member of the proposed P3 vessel-sharing alliance, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), has been purchasing slots on the whole service (except Cartagena) since December 2011.
