CMA CGM at the heart of Huang Yong Ping's Monumenta 2016 show in Paris
FRENCH shipping giant CMA CGM has become the main partner in the Monumenta 2016 art exhibition in Paris taking shape at the Rmn (Reunion des musees nationaux) Grand-Palais and the Kamel Mennour gallery.
"CMA CGM has decided to be at the heart of the creation of the masterpiece, by providing its containerships, containers and its technical and logistical expertise contributing to the work of globalisation artist Huang Yong Ping that is taking shape," said a company statement.
A key milestone was reached where several containers were off loaded in Le Havre after a month-long voyage from Qingdao and Shanghai aboard the 18,000-TEU CMA CGM Bougainville, the company flagship.
Various elements of artwork, arrived piece by piece at the Port of Le Havre, which were then transferred by barge to Gennevilliers to be stored before dispatch to the Grand Palais in Paris by special convoy.
Starting this week, there has been a continuous stream of components arriving day and night under CMA CGM supervision to be assembled under the nave of the Grand Palais.
A special convoy of trucks travels the Champs-Elysee every 15 minutes entering the nave of the Grand Palais to assemble the masterpiece in complete secrecy.
"Such unique and complex logistics for a work of art is guaranteed notably by CMA CGM," said the company statement.
Daughter of company founder Jacques Saade, Tanya Saade Zeenny, now CMA CGM executive officer, said: "By carrying millions of tons of goods every year, CMA CGM is a privileged observer of global economic exchanges that the artist expresses through this year's Monumenta. Furthermore, we are at the centre of this artwork that will fill the nave of the Grand Palais. "
Said Rmn president Sylvie Hubac: "Ping's performance is impressive and the work, created in situ, integrates unstintingly to the voluminous space of the Grand Palais. Around several masterpieces, symbolizing globalisation, the artist offers a metaphorical fresco of the forces at work within the world and of humanity. The project would not have been the same without the support of CMA CGM."
