Chinawide container throughput via major maritime ports up 10pc in June
CHINA posted a year-on-year increase of 10 per cent in its port container volume in June, Xinhua reports, quoting a source from Chinese financial news website caijing.com, but no detailed figures were given.
In the same month, average daily throughput grew two per cent compared to May.
Containerised foreign trade cargo increased seven per cent year on year while domestic trade was up 16 per cent. Foreign trade volume accounted for 67 per cent of the container throughput in June, remaining at the same level as in May.
Insiders estimated that the eight largest container seaports in China, Dalian, Tianjin, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, posted year-on-year growth of six per cent in their aggregate box volume in June, staying around the same level as in May.
Containers generated from the Bohai Rim region increased 10 per cent year on year. Those from the Yangtze River Delta increased four per cent. Pearl River Delta port's throughput also grew four per cent.
Pearl River Delta ports' throughput was picking up, according to the report. Shenzhen's growth accelerated to six per cent. Guangzhou's growth also sped up to six per cent from three per cent in May.
As peak season opens, the industry expects brighter prospects in July in container throughput.
