China's overall cargo growth rate continues to slow in May
STATISTICS from the Ministry of Transportation showed that China's ports recorded a year-on-year increase of 6.2 per cent in container volume to 16.13 million TEU in May, which is 2.5 percentage points slower than in April, Xinhua reports.
In the same month, Chinese ports' overall cargo increased 7.6 per cent to 912 million tonnes. The growth was 1.8 percentage points slower than in the previous month and was the slowest in this year. Throughput of foreign trade cargo went up 3.5 per cent to 280 million tonnes, 2.9 percentage points lower than in April.
From January to May, the country's ports grew 8.2 per cent year on year to 75.26 million TEU, 0.6 per cent slower than in the same period last year. Overall cargo volume through these ports went up 9.4 per cent to 4.3 billion tonnes, up 1.7 per cent year on year.
In the five months, seaport volume increased 9.2 per cent to 2.98 billion tonnes. Overall river port cargo came in at 1.32 billion tonnes, up 9.7 per cent.
