CHINA is increasing American pork imports, giving the sector a much needed boost as US meat exports have slowed because of sickness in meatpacking plants, reports Bloomberg.
In addition to the large pork order, exporters also sold cotton, soybeans, sorghum and a small amount of US beef to China.
The world's top pork consumer booked 40,200 tonnes of American meat last week, the Asian country's largest order since October, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
China sales came as some US stores have started rationing meat and prices for both US pork and beef have risen sharply.
US meat output dropped by more than 30 per cent in recent weeks amid slaughterhouse closures. Meanwhile, as the Chinese economy has started to gain traction after its coronavirus lockdowns, importers there are increasing purchases of all US agriculture goods as part of the trade-deal pledge to buy billions more this year.
