Chilean dock strike over lunch breaks, rest periods hits containers
CHILEAN dockers went on strike this week over a new law, which affects workers' lunch and rest breaks, reports Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS).
The strike, organised by the Union Portuaria, is affecting a number of ports and disrupted operations are primarily impacting container and dry cargoes.
The strike will be indefinite until negotiations between the Union and the Chilean government can be resolved.
Port operations at Iquique, Tocopilla, Caldera, Huasco, San Antonio, Lirquen, San Vicente, Coronel and Puerto Montt are affected.
