THE Hongkong Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics Limited (HAFFA) celebrated its 50th anniversary with Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung as guest of honour and keynote speaker.
Also in attendance was Yang Yi, deputy director general of the economic affairs department and head of commercial office of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR.
The Golden Jubilee anniversary was marked at the Kowloonbay International Trade and Exhibition Centre (KITEC) on February 19.
The occasion was the second time the leader of the Hong Kong administration has attended the association's annual spring gathering, emphasising the importance of the industry to Hong Kong, both today and over the past five decades.
In addition to the Chief Executive, the evening's distinguished guests included Anthony Cheung, Secretary for Transport and Housing; Frankie Yick, Legislative Council Member for Transport; Roy Tang, Commissioner of Customs and Excise; Norman Lo, director general of civil aviation; Huxiang Zhao, FIATA president and Alec Koh, FAPAA chairman.
The Chief Executive delivered the keynote address before 800 HAFFA members and guests. In his remarks he congratulated HAFFA on its work over the past 50 years, and noted the achievements of its members in creating a HK$68 billion (US$8.7 billion) industry, providing 190,000 jobs.
Mr Leung outlined government efforts to enhance infrastructure in order to further support the industry both in Hong Kong and the region, and voiced his wish that HAFFA members continue to take advantage of all opportunities in order to further strengthen the city's standing as a regional logistics hub.
HAFFA chairman Cliff Sullivan thanked government departments, organisations and association members whose efforts have helped HAFFA achieve its many successes over the past five decades.
Mr Sullivan expressed HAFFA's gratitude to the Office of the Chief Executive, the Transport and Housing Bureau, the Civil Aviation Department and the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department for their close collaboration and joint efforts in establishing policies which benefit the industry.
With HAFFA members and executive committee members from the 1960s through to the present day in attendance, the anniversary gala provided a unique occasion to not only reflect upon the changes to Hong Kong's logistics industry, but also celebrate the enduring strength of the Association and its members.
HAFFA was established in 1966, and is responsible for setting industry standards as well as providing educational courses which enhance the professional standards of the freight forwarders and logistics providers in Hong Kong.
