SWITZERLAND's CEVA Logistics has moved a shipment of 7,000 kilogrammes of garments which took just 16 days to reach a major retailer in Spain - via door-to-door delivery - from South China. The consignment was moved by truck across Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany and France.
No inspection was required during transit following the customs sealing at Khorgos on the China-Kazakstan border and it being unsealed in Spain. The total distance covered was 13,600 kilometres, London's Air Cargo News reported.
'This was the last official trial for our new China-Europe trucking service before we begin a regular service this month, said CEVA Logistics North Asia executive vice president Torben Bengtsson.
'Together with our partner Alblas International Logistics, we will further extend our trucking footprint through this unique service. The TIR trucking will change our customer's logistics flow significantly.
The new trucking service is 'a very cost-sensitive alternative to air and rail transport', said director of road and rail Kelvin Tang. 'Compared to air transport, the cost is more than 40 per cent lower and it's at least 10 days faster than rail transport.'
This China-Europe trucking service will be operated as a round trip twice a week, with exact departure and destination being handled according to each customer's needs. In addition to full-container-load (FCL), the company will commence less-than-container-load (LCL) service this June.
The Asia-Europe trucking service was first launched to Poland in 2018, with a load leaving Khorgos in the far west of China on November 13, travelling via Kazakhstan to reach Poland on November 24 - a 7,000 km journey.
The service has become possible since the international customs transit system, TIR, became active in China last May.
