Carriers move to raise freight rates in many trades with immediate effect
MAJOR container lines have announced rate increases for a variety of trades slated to take effect in August, September and October.
APL will hike rates in its trade from the Middle East and West Asia to the US and Canada starting from September 1. For shipments to Canada, the increase will be US$320 per TEU, $400 per FEU, $450 per FEU high-cube and $505 per 45-footer. For shipments to the US, the hike will be $320 per TEU, $400 per FEU, $450 per FEU high-cube, $505 per 45-footer, $575 per 48-foot container and $640 per 53-footer.
The same container carrier has also boosted rates from August 5 for cargo from Asia, Australia, East Africa, the Middle East and West Asia to Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru by $500 per TEU and $1,000 per FEU and FEU high-cube container. For reefer shipments from Asia, East Africa, the Middle East and west Asia to Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, the hike will be $500 per FEU and FEU high cube container.
Evergreen Line will increase rates for shipments from the Far East, South Africa and Middle East to the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. From the Far East, excluding India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh, as well as South Africa and the Middle East to the US West Coast and British Columbia, the hike will be $320 per TEU, $400 per FEU, $450 per FEU high-cube and $506 per 45-footer.
From the Far East, excluding India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh, as well as South Africa and the Middle East to all other destinations in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico, the hike will be $480 per TEU, $600 per FEU, $675 per FEU high cube and $760 per 45-foot high-cube.
From India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh to the US west coast and British Columbia the hike will be $340 per TEU, $425 per FEU, $478 per FEU and $538 per 45-foot high-cube container. For all other cargo, the increase will be $500 per TEU, $625 per FEU, $703 per FEU high-cube container and $791 per 45-foot high-cube container.
Evergreen Line has also increased rates from August 5 for shipments of commodities, including used clothing and used toys, from the US and Puerto Rico to the west coast of South America and Mexico.
Furthermore, three carriers, including Cosco and Maersk Line, have planned rate hikes for August 15 on shipments from the Far East to South America's east coast.
