CARGOTEC's Kalmar has taken a big order for port equipment to Venezuela's government-owned port operator Bolivariana de Puertos (Bolipuertos) SA. Both parties have not disclosed the sum involved.
The massive order includes 30 reachstackers, four empty container handlers, eight heavy forklifts, nine light forklifts, seven heavy terminal tractors, 41 medium terminal tractors and a rubber-tyre gantry crane.
A release said the order for the container ports of Puerto Cabello and La Guaira is one of its largest single port equipment contracts from Bolipuertos and reflects the terminal operator's rapid expansion in container and industrial handling applications.
Kalmar vice president Ingo Erhardt, head of South America operations, said the company's dedicated manufacturing centres around the world will fulfil the order shortly.
Once the Puerto Cabello expansion project is finished, the port will have a capacity of 700,000 TEU while La Guardia port facility will have a capacity of 600,000 TEU.
