CAMBODIAN authorities are looking at ways to finance a new US$20 million terminal at Phnom Penh Autonomous Port, which will double capacity to 300,000 TEU when it opens in 2017.
The port hopes for Chinese funding as China helped fund the first phase, and/or listing assets on the local stock exchange, reports SeaShip News of Singapore and Dalian.
In addition to the terminal's expansion, the port authority is currently seeking approval from the government to allow a Special Economic Zone on 1,000 hectares.
A third phase of expansion for the port is planned to start from 2018, bringing the port's total handling capacity up to 500,000 TEU.
More than 61,000 TEU passed through the port during the first half of the year, up 21 per cent from the 50,000 TEU during the same period last year, said the report.
