Brazil's big agricultural Paranagua port takes in 4 big box cranes
THE Port of Paranagua on the south coast of Brazil has taken delivery of four new ultra large container cranes built by Shanghai's ZPMC, reports London's Clarkson Research Services.
The new cranes have an outreach of 23 container rows and, together with an extended berth, take the terminal's annual capacity to 1.5 million TEU, according to Clarkson's Container Intelligence Monthly.
The economy of the city of Paranagua (pop 148,000) is driven by its deepwater port, the largest exporter of agricultural produce in Brazil, mostly grain from the southern regions of the country.
The port is also a major trading centre for automobiles, fertiliser, lumber, paper, petroleum products, salt, soybeans and sugar.
