BOX SHIPS, the New York-listed, Athens-based start-up that specialises in container feeder vessels, has taken delivery of its eighth vessel, the 5,344-TEU OOCL Hong Kong under a 36-month charters at US$26,465, daily rate to Hong Kong's Orient Overseas Shipping Company.
Box Ships has also agreed to acquire one more vessel of this size and model type that was built in 1996, the OOCL China. This vessel is due to be delivered to OOCL before July 14. It too will be chartered to OOCL under the same terms.
Box Ships' current fleet consists of eight containerships aggregating to 38,581 TEU. Following the delivery of the OOCL China, the company will have a fleet of nine vessels with a total carrying capacity of 43,925 TEU.
