THE Ministry of Transportation is to carry out four measures to propel faster development of cross-strait direct shipping, said Transportation Vice Minister He Jianzhong, reports Xinhua.
First, Beijing plans support for cross-strait cruise lines. Second, training for seafarers will be improved on both the mainland and Taiwan. There will also be a cross-strait container shipping index to secure healthy growth of container movement as well as making Pingtan, the nearest mainland city to Taiwan, a pilot city in the innovation of shipping policies.
Speaking at a cross-strait shipping forum, Mr He said the shipping industry from both sides of the Taiwan Strait will deepen their cooperation in direct shipping and materialise seamless connection in multiple means of traffic.
