Yasa Group orders two 3,100 TEU container vessels from China, set for delivery between August and October 2028, marking a fleet diversification move.
Yasa Group enters the container segment: Order for 3,100 TEU to China
It has emerged that Yasa Group, one of the significant players in the Turkish shipping sector, has stepped into container transportation. According to Alphaliner data, the group has ordered two container ships with a capacity of 3,100 TEU to be built in China.
Deliveries in 2028
It has been reported that the vessels will be constructed by Penglai Zhongbai Jinglu Shipbuilding Industry, also known as Jinglu Shipyard, and that deliveries will take place between August and October 2028.
The ships are expected to feature the 'Sealion 3100' design, signed by SDARI, and have technical specifications such as a carrying capacity of approximately 41,000 tons, a length of 199.90 meters, and a width of 35.30 meters.
Cost approximately 45 million dollars
Market data indicates that the unit cost of ships built in this segment at Chinese shipyards is around 45 million dollars. However, no specific price information regarding Yasa Group's order has been disclosed.
Increased interest from Turkish shipowners
Yasa Group is not the first Turkish shipowner to focus on container ships of this tonnage. Previously, Ciner Group had also ordered two ships with similar characteristics from New Dayang Shipyard, with deliveries planned for early 2028.
Claim of increased orders
On the other hand, Alphaliner reported that some sources suggested Yasa Group could increase its order to four ships, although this information has not yet been confirmed.
Considering that Yasa Group primarily operates in the dry cargo and tanker segments, this order is regarded as a significant step in the company's fleet diversification strategy.
