Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding signs contract for six 6,150 TEU containerships with options for four more, boosting its international presence.

China's Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding has signed a contract with Shanghai Changshun Shipping for six firm 6,150 TEU containerships, with options for four more, reports Singapore's Splash 247.

Financial details and delivery dates were not disclosed. This deal adds to the mounting activity at the yard, which has been rebuilding its position in the international shipbuilding market after restructuring and restarting under new ownership.

Since resuming operations, Yangzhou Guoyu has attracted interest from both domestic and overseas owners. Shanghai Changshun Shipping was among its earlier customers, having ordered a series of 5,000 TEU vessels.

The latest contract follows orders from foreign owners, including Greece's Conbulk Shipmanagement and Chartworld Shipping, while Swiss liner MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has also booked ships at the yard.

Alongside containerships, Yangzhou Guoyu has built a sizeable order book of MR product tankers, as midsized Chinese yards gain market share in segments traditionally dominated by larger builders.

In related activity, Athens-based Erasmus Shipinvest has been linked to an order at Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering for four firm 2,400 TEU feeder boxships, with options for two more. Deliveries are slated for 2028-2029, with the deal worth about US$270 million if all options are taken.
