Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. delivers two LNG dual-fuel vessels, enhancing its fleet and commitment to sustainability.
Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. has named and delivered its first two 15,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships, YM Willpower and YM Worthiness, at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, as reported by the American Journal of Transportation.
The naming ceremony was attended by Taiwan's Minister of Transportation and Communications, Shih-Kai Chen, and his spouse, Yu-Fen Li, who acted as Godmother. Executives from Yang Ming's joint venture partners, Sebang Group, Arkas Holding, FINSEA SpA, and Catalana Del Mar, also joined the event, marking a significant milestone in the company's green transition strategy.
Each vessel has a nominal capacity of about 15,600 TEU, with a length of 364.97 meters and a breadth of 51 meters. Equipped with high-pressure LNG dual-fuel engines, the ships are designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 20 percent compared to conventional fuels. They also meet IMO Tier III NOx standards through exhaust gas after-treatment systems.
The ships carry integrated navigation, monitoring, and satellite systems to enhance safety and data collection. YM Willpower and YM Worthiness have received Smart Ship Notations from Bureau Veritas and Lloyd's Register.
YM Willpower will join the MD2 service on February 8, covering ports from Pusan and Shanghai to Genoa and Fos Sur Mer. YM Worthiness is due for delivery in the second quarter of 2026. Yang Ming stated that the new vessels will boost capacity utilization and competitiveness while advancing its environmental commitments.
