Hartman Seatrade selects Wärtsilä's efficient engine for a new 3800 DWT heavy cargo vessel, enhancing operational flexibility and sustainability.
The Dutch ship operator Hartman Seatrade has made its choice for the heart of its new generation heavy lift vessel that will join its fleet. The company has signed an agreement with technology giant Wärtsilä for the main engine and propulsion systems of the 3,800 DWT vessel, which will be constructed at its newly established Rock Shipbuilding shipyard.
Chosen as the Most Efficient in Its Class
Hartman Seatrade has selected the Wärtsilä 31 engine, which has entered the Guinness World Records for its fuel efficiency and low emissions, as the power source for the vessel.
Thanks to its modular design, this engine reduces maintenance costs while providing high flexibility for both fast and slow steaming operations. Teele Hartman, the General Manager of Hartman Seatrade, stated, 'Our focus is on efficiency and operational flexibility. The Wärtsilä 31 was the most logical choice for us due to its performance range and low maintenance requirements.'
Preparation for Hybrid and Smart Propeller System
The equipment package, scheduled for delivery in the spring of 2027, is not limited to just the main engine. Wärtsilä will also provide a special gearbox system that can operate in PTI (Power Take-In), PTO (Power Take-Out), and PTH (Power Take-Home) modes, enhancing the vessel's fuel efficiency.
The vessel's 'Controllable Pitch Propeller' (CPP) will be managed by Wärtsilä's EcoControl system and hydrodynamically optimized with the Opti Design solution. This technology will allow the propeller to operate at low revolutions in situations where full thrust is not required, providing extra fuel savings.
