The 'Avior' with the Ark Deck Bar, which had capsized in the sea off Bandra on May 25, will be retrieved by the end of this month, the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) said on Sep 4. Since the weather had been inclement for the last few months, the owner would try to salvage the ship on which the floatel had operated by the month end, otherwise the MMB usually follows the process of seizing the bank guarantee, and retrieving the vessel on its own. The Ark Deck bar was run by three partners, including Vikrant Chandwadkar and Cookie Singh, who said they have nothing to do with the vessel and regard it as a matter between Mahendra Doshi, the owner of the 'Avior', the insurance company, and MMB, which regulates movements in the sea. Last year, Doshi had struck a deal with a company owned by Vikrant Chandwadkar, Cookie Singh and Antim Totla, to convert his 1970 fishing trawler into the luxury restobar, Ark Deck Bar. Before it capsized off the Bandra coast, Avior was anchored at sea and its restaurant hosted diners who arrived via speedboats. On the last day for boats to operate during the season, the 'Avior' had hit a rock, tearing open a hole in its hull. The authorities were still investigating whether it was an accident or the result of a lack of maintenance. Numerous attempts have already been made by the owner to salvage the ship. The other two floatels 'Mumbai Maiden' and 'AB Celestial' were likely to come back in October, and this wreck would then be a huge impediment.
