The cargo ship White Lina ran aground in Marmaraereğlisi due to strong winds. No casualties reported; salvage operations await better weather.
The Palau-flagged cargo ship White Lina, en route to Tekirdağ to load cargo from Libya, ran aground off the coast of Marmaraereğlisi district in Tekirdağ due to severe southwesterly winds affecting the area.
Upon notification of the incident, teams from the General Directorate of Coastal Safety were dispatched to the region. Initial assessments indicated that there were no casualties or risk of marine pollution on board the vessel, and the crew was reported to be safely aboard the ship.
Authorities stated they were in contact with the ship's captain and representatives of the shipowner. Evacuation procedures could be carried out by Coastal Safety units if requested by the crew. The salvage operation for the ship will wait for adverse weather conditions to improve, with the salvage plan to be implemented after the winds subside.
Maritime experts emphasize that under southwesterly conditions, there are increased risks of dragging anchor and holding issues along the Marmara coasts, highlighting that such incidents frequently occur during the winter months.
