Iran warns the U.S. of dire consequences in the Gulf of Oman if the blockade continues, escalating tensions in the region.

Iran has threatened to turn the Gulf of Oman into a 'graveyard' for ships if the U.S. does not end its blockade.

As tensions continue in the Gulf, mutual threats between Iran and the U.S. persist. Iran has warned that it would engage in conflict with the U.S. in response to the maritime blockade. A senior military advisor to the country's religious leader cautioned that if tensions continue to escalate, the Sea of Oman could become a 'graveyard' for U.S. vessels. In statements broadcast on Iranian state television, Major General Mohsen Rezai, a member of Iran's Military Advisory Council, said, 'My military advice to the U.S. is to withdraw before the Gulf of Oman turns into a graveyard for your ships. Otherwise, as we understand, the maritime blockade is an act of war, and responding to it is our natural right.'

Rezai stated that Iran's demonstrated patience should not be interpreted as acceptance of pressure or threats, asserting, 'Our patience so far does not mean we accept this.' He also argued that Washington no longer has the justifications it once used to maintain its role in the region.

'America is coming here and bringing warships. Who is the enemy? They used to say they came to confront the Soviet Union.' 'The Soviet Union is no longer here,' he said.

Rezai contended that the Strait of Hormuz has always remained open for trade and that what is being rejected are foreign military operations rather than commercial mobility. 'The Strait of Hormuz is open for trade, but it will be closed to military buildups and attempts to destabilize security,' he stated.
