Asaf Güneri, the chairman of Zihni Holding and a prominent figure in the Turkish maritime sector, has passed away. Güneri, who operated in ship management, maritime transportation, and agency services for many years, was among the key individuals contributing to the growth of Turkish maritime on an international scale.
Born in 1946 in Zonguldak, Asaf Güneri began working in the family company, Zihni Group, after completing his university education. Following the death of his father, Turgut Güneri, he took over the management of the company at a young age and transformed Zihni Holding into a recognized entity in the international maritime sector. The group operated in ship management, ship agency, maritime, land, and air transportation, as well as in the energy and tourism sectors.
Throughout his professional life, Güneri stood out not only for his commercial activities but also for his efforts towards the development of the sector; he held active roles in BIMCO, Intercargo, TURMEPA, and various national and international maritime organizations. He was also regarded as one of Turkey's leading shipowners.
The maritime community received the news of Asaf Güneri's passing with deep sorrow, remembering him for his knowledge, vision, and contributions to the institutionalization of the sector.
