The Bahamian-flagged 'SAIPEM 7000', the third largest crane ship in the world, entered the Istanbul Strait around 06:00, coming from Libya's Bouri Port to Romania's Constanta Port.
ISTANBUL STRAIT CLOSED TO SHIP TRAFFIC
The 198-meter-long, 135-meter-high, and 117,812 gross tonnage vessel, capable of laying pipes in waters deeper than 2,000 meters and lifting massive structures of up to 14,000 tons in a single operation with its twin crane system, was accompanied by tugboats from the General Directorate of Coastal Safety during its passage through the Strait. During the vessel's transit, the Istanbul Strait was closed to traffic in both directions.
