Marsa Maroc allocates MAD3 billion to enhance container capacity at Casablanca Port, following a 20-year concession extension for Terminal 3.
Marsa Maroc will spend MAD3 billion (US$300 million) to expand container handling at Casablanca Port after securing a 20-year extension of its concession for Terminal 3, reported Morocco World News.
The company stated that the plan will raise Terminal 3's capacity from 600,000 to 900,000 TEU by 2030. Overall, the expansion is expected to lift Casablanca's total container handling capacity to more than two million TEU.
The project includes extending quay infrastructure, upgrading equipment, and redesigning storage areas across the two container terminals operated by Marsa Maroc. The firm indicated that the investment reflects its long-term strategy to strengthen Casablanca's role as Morocco's main maritime gateway.
The extended concession provides certainty for major infrastructure works and prepares the port to handle rising volumes. Marsa Maroc noted that the upgrades will improve efficiency and support national logistics competitiveness.
Morocco's National Ports Agency reported that congestion at Casablanca has been cut nearly in half after new management measures. These measures include closer monitoring of vessels offshore and at berth, stricter oversight of cargo clearance, and improved coordination with freight recipients to accelerate the evacuation of goods.
