The US Navy christens USNS Lansing, a new transport ship that boosts amphibious operations and rapid response capabilities.
The US Navy has made a significant advancement in its amphibious operational capabilities with the addition of the new generation transport ship, USNS Lansing (T-EPF-16). This vessel was honored during a traditional christening ceremony at the Austal USA shipyard in Alabama.
As the 16th member of the Spearhead-class Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF) vessels, USNS Lansing is named after the capital of Michigan. During the ceremony, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the ship's sponsor, officially christened the vessel by breaking a traditional champagne bottle at its bow.
Constructed entirely of aluminum, this catamaran-type ship is one of the most versatile platforms in the US Navy. USNS Lansing is designed to perform a wide range of missions, including troop and equipment transport, humanitarian aid, disaster response, and special operations support. Its high speed enables it to swiftly reach crisis areas, making it an invaluable asset for the Navy.
