The FCC upholds its ban on Chinese drones but allows select foreign models, reinforcing US national security measures against Chinese suppliers.

The US Federal Communications Commission has upheld its ban on Chinese drones while carving out exemptions for certain foreign-made models and components, reported Caixin.

The FCC announced on January 7 that select drones from allied nations will be allowed into the US market despite a sweeping prohibition imposed in December 2025. This move reinforces Washington's stance against Chinese suppliers, which dominate the global drone industry.

Under the revised rules, exempted drones and parts may continue to be sold in the US until January 1, 2027. The FCC had previously placed all foreign-made drones on its Covered List on December 22, citing unacceptable risks to national security and the safety of US personnel.
