Aqmaris partners with Wuhu Shipyard to construct four eco-friendly Ultramax bulk carriers, enhancing its global maritime presence.

Turkish shipyard Aqmaris has partnered with China-based Wuhu Shipyard to sign a contract for the construction of four Ultramax bulk carriers. This agreement marks one of the first large-scale newbuilding projects undertaken by Aqmaris Ship Management, headquartered in Istanbul.

The four vessels, each with a capacity of 64,500 DWT, will comply with IMO Tier III emission standards and will be designed according to EEDI Phase III environmental efficiency criteria. Additionally, the ships will be equipped for high-voltage shore power connections and will be adaptable to lithium-ion battery systems, aligning with shipowners' goals to future-proof their fleets.

Aqmaris Ship Management, a relatively new player in the global maritime sector, was registered in 2025 and has made a swift entry into the market, having already taken delivery of its first newbuilding vessel of 64,500 DWT. Besides the agreement with Wuhu Shipyard, Aqmaris is reportedly developing new projects with COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard.

The company's operations include the ownership, chartering, and management of bulk carriers worldwide, with the flexibility to operate under the Turkish flag. Aqmaris plans to operate its vessels through both voyage-based and time charter methods.

From Wuhu Shipyard's perspective, the Aqmaris order represents significant momentum following recent newbuilding contracts signed with foreign shipowners.

The contract encompasses a total of four vessels, consisting of two firm orders and two options. The delivery of the vessels is anticipated in 2028, while the financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed to the public.
