Turkey's cruise tourism exceeded 2 million passengers in 2025, marking a 13.2% increase and its best performance in 12 years.

Turkey's cruise tourism has surpassed the 2 million barrier in 2025, achieving the strongest performance in the last 12 years. According to official data announced by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the number of cruise passengers arriving at Turkish ports in 2025 increased by 13.2% to 2,138,136, while the number of cruise ships reached 1,375, marking a 15.1% increase.

Thus, Turkey has strengthened its strategic position in the Eastern Mediterranean by exceeding the 2 million passenger threshold for the first time since 2013. With the strong momentum achieved in 2025, Turkey's cruise tourism reached the highest passenger numbers in recent years. According to data announced by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the number of cruise passengers arriving at Turkish ports throughout the year exceeded the 2 million barrier, signaling a resurgence in the sector.

Camelot Maritime's Board Chairman noted that the 2025 data presents an important picture not only in terms of tourism but also macroeconomic indicators, emphasizing that cruise tourism should now be evaluated not just by passenger numbers but also by its foreign exchange inflow, contribution to port economies, and impact on local development.

Cruise tourism has become one of the strong pillars of economic growth. Turkey's cruise tourism has demonstrated its strongest performance in recent years with over 2 million passengers in 2025, while the sector is preparing for a more qualitative growth target for 2026. Emrah Yılmaz Çavuşoğlu assessed that the number of passengers exceeding 2 million reached in 2025 clearly indicates that Turkey is once again a strong player in the cruise league, emphasizing that the critical threshold is for this passenger profile to evolve into one that has high spending power, is destination-focused, and sustainable by 2026.

Kuşadası and Istanbul ports have become strategic centers. According to ministry data, in 2025, Kuşadası Port became the leader in Turkish cruise tourism with 617 ships and approximately 1 million passengers, while Istanbul ports ranked second with over 625,000 passengers. Bodrum Port has also reinforced its importance on the Aegean route with increasing numbers of sailings. Evaluating this situation, Çavuşoğlu stated, 'Kuşadası and Istanbul are not just stopover points anymore; they are now becoming central destinations on cruise routes. This situation creates a direct economic multiplier effect in many sub-sectors, particularly in retail, dining, guiding, transportation, and cultural tourism.'

2026 will be the year of transition from quantity to quality. In the sector's 2026 goals, passengers with high spending profiles, increased homeport operations, modernization of port infrastructures, and sustainable maritime practices are highlighted.

Çavuşoğlu emphasized that cruise tourism is not just a seasonal tourism activity for Turkey, stating, 'It is a strategic area that spans four seasons, produces high added value, and directly nourishes city economies.'

The integration of economy, tourism, and logistics is coming to the fore. With the increasing number of sailings, cruise tourism is also creating new opportunities in terms of port management, logistics, ship supply chains, and service exports. Emrah Yılmaz Çavuşoğlu expects that by 2026, the share of cruise tourism within tourism revenues will become qualitatively more visible.
