Turkey and France sign a protocol to enhance oil spill response and strengthen marine environmental cooperation.
With the protocol signed between Turkey and France, the capacity to intervene in marine oil pollution will be increased, and technical cooperation will be strengthened.
An important step has been taken in cooperation for the protection of the marine environment between Turkey and France. A cooperation protocol was signed between the National Maritime Safety Authority, affiliated with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and France's Documentation, Research, and Experimentation Center for Accidental Water Pollution (CEDRE).
In a statement made by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, it was noted that the protocol aims to specifically enhance the capacity to intervene in oil pollution incidents occurring at sea. The statement emphasized that technical information sharing, training, and cooperation in research areas between the two countries would be strengthened.
Under the protocol, the aim is to develop faster and more effective intervention mechanisms against environmental risks that may arise from maritime accidents. In this context, sharing international experiences and implementing scientific methods will be highlighted.
Officials stated that the cooperation would not only increase Turkey's capacity to combat marine pollution but also contribute to strengthening environmental safety. The statement included the evaluation, 'We are strengthening our cooperation in combating oil pollution at sea, and we are increasing our capacity.'
