The world's largest container shipping company and a leading player in the cruise sector, the privately held Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), announced that its founder, Gianluigi Aponte, has transferred ownership of the company to his children, Diego and Alexa Aponte.
In a statement made by MSC today, the 85-year-old Gianluigi Aponte said, 'Transferring ownership to my children is not only a reflection of their dedication and achievements but also a continuation of our family's maritime legacy that has spanned centuries.'
Originally from Naples, Aponte founded MSC in 1970, transforming a small venture into a global maritime giant. The Aponte family ranks among the top 50 on the Forbes billionaires list.
1000th Ship on the Way
The MSC fleet is preparing for a new milestone. The company is expected to reach a historic threshold with the launch of its 1000th ship in the coming weeks.
As a world leader in container shipping, MSC is also notable for its significant investments in the cruise market.
