CHP's Deniz Yavuzyılmaz claims TPAO misused public funds in leasing offshore drilling support vessels, seeking answers from the Energy Minister.

CHP Zonguldak Deputy Deniz Yavuzyılmaz has alleged irregularities regarding the platform support vessel services acquired by Turkey Petrolleri A.O. (TPAO)'s subsidiary, Türkiye Petrolleri Offshore A.Ş. Yavuzyılmaz claimed that public resources have been harmed due to the leasing method and requested an explanation from the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar.

In a post on his social media account, Yavuzyılmaz asserted that instead of purchasing platform support vessels for the drilling ships, they have been leased at high costs. He alleged that an average daily payment of 30,000 dollars is made per drilling ship for support vessel services, amounting to approximately 10.95 million dollars annually. He argued that the total annual payment for the 11 support vessels used as rentals has reached around 60.2 million dollars.

The CHP deputy claimed that at least 225 million dollars have been paid so far under the leasing agreement for six drilling ships purchased between 2017 and 2025, stating, 'With this amount, the existing support vessels could have been purchased multiple times.'

Yavuzyılmaz called on Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar to explain to the public why the platform support vessels were not purchased and why the leasing method was preferred.

Meanwhile, as of the time the news was published, no official statement regarding the allegations had been made by TPAO or the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
