Tokyo Port plans a new Y3 container yard, boosting capacity by 450,000 TEU by 2028, according to reports from PortNews in Saint Petersburg.
Tokyo Port will build a new container yard linked to the Y3 berth at the Outer Central Breakwater Container Terminal, adding 450,000 TEU of annual capacity, reports Saint Petersburg's PortNews.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau of Port and Harbor stated that construction is scheduled to begin in fiscal 2026, with operations targeted for fiscal 2028. The additional capacity would represent about 10 percent of the port's total throughput.
The project includes a 400-meter earthquake-resistant quay with a -16 meter depth, designed to accommodate larger container vessels. The Y3 berth forms part of the wider Central Breakwater Outer Area development.
The Bureau of Port and Harbor oversees planning and infrastructure at Tokyo Port. Tokyo Port Terminal Corporation, established in 2008, operates container wharf facilities under long-term management agreements with the metropolitan authority.
