A chemical tanker was saved just 30 meters from Istanbul's coast during a storm, preventing a potential environmental catastrophe.
A southwesterly storm in Avcılar, Istanbul, caused a chemical-laden tanker to drift dangerously close to the shore. Fortunately, the vessel was successfully diverted just 30 meters from the coastline, averting a potential disaster.
The incident involved the Tanzanian-flagged tanker named 'Marina', which was waiting offshore to head to Ambarlı Port. Measuring 99.35 meters in length and 15 meters in width, the tanker was swept towards the shore by intensifying winds.
As the ship approached the shoreline of the Denizköşkler neighborhood, the captain managed to steer the vessel away from danger. This timely intervention helped prevent a significant environmental crisis and raised concerns among local residents.
