The "2nd Maritime Green Transformation Summit," organized by the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping, was held on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, hosted by Piri Reis University. The summit served as an important gathering addressing sustainability and environmental transformation in the maritime sector.
Attendees included Salih Tan, General Director of Shipyards and Coastal Structures at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure; Mustafa Bankaoğlu, General Director of Coastal Safety; Prof. Dr. Nafiz Arıca, Rector of Piri Reis University; Başaran Bayrak, Chairman of the İMEAK DTO Assembly; board members and branch presidents, professional committee representatives, public institution representatives, industry stakeholders, and academics.
Three separate sessions were organized under the headings of "Maritime Transportation," "Shipbuilding and Ports," and "Alternative Energy Sources." The sessions focused on reducing the carbon footprint of the maritime sector, eco-friendly technologies, and sustainable production models.
Additionally, informational presentations were made on "Carbon-Free Future Strategies in Maritime within the Framework of International Regulations," "The Intersection of Digitalization and Green Transformation: Smart Maritime Applications," and "Maritime in Global Climate Change."
At the end of the summit, certificates related to tree donations made on behalf of the Turkey Erosion Control, Afforestation, and Protection of Natural Assets Foundation were presented to the moderator and panelists by the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping.
The event was deemed a significant step in raising environmental awareness in the maritime sector and accelerating the green transformation process.
