Texas prohibits state employees from using products from Shein, Alibaba, and others to protect privacy from the Chinese government.
Texas will prohibit state employees from using hardware and software from Shein, Alibaba, and TP-Link, reports Reuters.
Governor Greg Abbott stated that the move aims to protect the privacy of Texans from the Chinese government.
The ban also encompasses the online commerce platform Temu and the battery manufacturer CATL, according to the governor's statement. Mr. Abbott has been a supporter of the Trump administration, which has sought to limit actions that could heighten tensions with Beijing.
The restrictions extend to the Chinese drone maker Autel and the artificial intelligence firm iFlyTek. This announcement comes after the United States and China reached a detente in their long-running trade and technology dispute in October.
