Tamer Kıran highlights women's growing role in maritime at the 'Turkish Women in Maritime' panel, emphasizing their strategic importance for the industry.
Tamer Kıran participated in the panel titled 'Turkish Women in Maritime,' organized by the Association of Women Ship Captains, Engineers, and Mariners, as part of the International Day of Women Sailors on May 18. Speaking at the panel, Kıran stated that the presence of women in the maritime sector has been strengthening every year, emphasizing that the employment of women holds strategic importance for the future of the industry.
According to a statement on the website of the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping, Kıran expressed his delight at the increasing number of female students in maritime education. He highlighted that women are beginning to take on more roles not only on land but also on ships and in technical operations, noting that this transformation contributes to the international competitiveness of Turkish maritime.
Kıran pointed out that having more women in management mechanisms would bring different perspectives to the sector and stressed the need to improve equal opportunities. He stated that the traditional structure of the maritime sector is beginning to change, and the successes of female professionals inspire younger generations.
The panel also addressed the challenges faced by women sailors in their professional lives, their career processes, and suggestions for improving equal opportunities in the sector. The event was attended by industry representatives, academics, female captains, and students.
