Svitzer enhances operations in Brazil with the new tugboat Svitzer Cassino at Port of Pecem, boosting capacity for larger vessels.
Danish towage company Svitzer has expanded operations in northeast Brazil with the arrival of a new tugboat in the Port of Pecem, reports London's Riviera Maritime Media.
The 23-metre azimuth stern drive vessel, Svitzer Cassino, was built at Rio Maguari Shipyard to Robert Allan Ltd's RAmparts 2300 design. It has a bollard pull of 70 tonnes and is the second in a series of three ordered by Svitzer.
Svitzer Copacabana, the first of the series, is currently operating in Paranagua, supporting LNG carriers at a floating storage and regasification vessel. A third tug, Svitzer Encintadas, is nearing completion at Rio Maguari's Belem yard.
Each RAmparts 2300 tug features an 11-metre beam, ABS class certification, a FiFi1 firefighting system, twin diesel engines, two azimuth thrusters, and a top speed of 13 knots.
Svitzer Americas managing director Daniel Reedtz Cohen stated that the arrival of Svitzer Cassino supports the company's expansion strategy in Brazil and enhances its capacity to serve larger ships at Pecem. He emphasized that it reinforces Svitzer's long-term commitment to the country.
The addition of Svitzer Cassino raises Svitzer's Brazilian fleet to 24 tugboats. The Port of Pecem in Ceara is a key logistics and export hub with maritime links to Europe and North America, where Svitzer has operated since June 2021.
