Iran's Revolutionary Guards warn of severe retaliation following an attack on a cargo ship off Qatar's coast amid rising Gulf water temperatures.
The waters in the Persian Gulf and its surroundings continue to warm. Following the announcement by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Agency (UKMTO) that a cargo ship was targeted off the coast of Qatar, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards issued a warning of heavy retaliation against U.S. bases.
UKMTO confirmed that an attack was carried out on a cargo ship sailing 23 nautical miles northeast of Doha this morning. It is still unclear whether the attack was conducted using a drone or a missile, but a small fire that broke out on the ship was extinguished by the crew. No casualties or injuries have been reported from the incident.
WARNING OF 'HEAVY ATTACK' FROM IRAN TO THE U.S.
Immediately following the attack in the Persian Gulf, a new statement came from Tehran. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards reacted to the U.S. striking two Iranian tankers, claiming they violated a blockade in the Gulf of Oman. They stated, 'Any slightest attack on Iranian tankers or commercial vessels will result in heavy retaliation against one of the American bases in the region and enemy ships,' directly escalating the tension in the region towards U.S. bases.
'THOSE FOLLOWING THE U.S. WILL FACE DIFFICULTIES'
Iranian Army Spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Ekraminia also stated in a press conference:
'From now on, countries that follow the example of the U.S. and impose sanctions on Iran will certainly face difficulties while passing through the Strait of Hormuz.'
