Japan's ship orders soared by 137.7% in December, totaling 27 vessels and 1.54 million gross tons, according to JSEA.
According to a statement made by the Japan Ship Exporters Association (JSEA), Japan received a total of 27 ship orders weighing 1.54 million gross tons in December of last year, marking a 137.7% increase compared to the previous month. Among these orders, 6 were for cargo ships and 21 were for bulk carriers. In November, new ship orders were recorded at 18 units.
Order Tonnage Decreased in 2025
Japan received a total of 186 ship orders throughout 2025. The total weight of these ships amounted to 8.94 million gross tons. Thus, the total order tonnage received by the country showed a decrease of 16.5% compared to 2024.
Monthly Decrease in Ship Exports, Annual Increase
On the other hand, Japan exported a total of 13 ships weighing 578,351 gross tons in November. However, in December, export figures declined to 374,664 gross tons, with 8 ships recorded.
In contrast, Japan's ship exports for the entire year of 2025 showed an annual increase of 1.2% in terms of tonnage. Throughout the year, the country exported 191 ships weighing a total of 8.32 million gross tons.
